2019-20 New Jersey High School Rankings

New Jersey High School Rankings: 106

Mougalian capped off his perfect season the same way he started it: ranked #1. The sophomore from Kinnelon breezed through the first four rounds of the state tournament before a buzzer-beating takedown sealed the title over freshman Santaniello.

One of the biggest shockers in AC came when Williamstown’s John Hildebrandt used two early takedowns to beat Delbarton’s young star Tyler Vazquez in the pre-quarters. Anyone following the NJ scene this season knew I was high on Hildebrandt who, despite taking out Vazquez, failed to place after losing in the bloodround.

One name missing from this top 10 is eighth-place finisher Jared Brunner of Eastern. Brunner won four matches in the consolation bracket after falling to Almodovar in the first round. However, by winning that match, Almodovar moved on to face the eventual champion Mougalian, and then fell to the aforementioned Vazquez on the backside. Tough break.
