NCAA Rankings 2018-19

285 Sam Stoll

Perhaps the most contentious of all the weight classes, heavyweight went from typically the most stable to the most volatile in one season.

One of the biggest stories from last week was Amar Dhesi making his return to collegiate wrestling and immediately losing to Mason Parris, a true freshman wrestling in his first varsity match. Dhesi, the highest returning All-American from 2018, drops to #5, while Parris, who has wins over Dhesi, Trent Hillger and Matt Stencel, but also losses to Stencel, Conan Jennings and Chase Singletary, makes his career top 20 debut at #7. It is likely, highly probably even, that Parris stays in the top 20 for the rest of his collegiate career.

Elsewhere, Billy Miller tumbles after losing to Joey Goodhart and Matt Voss at the Scuffle. Zach Elam is adjusted down after his poor Midlands performance is contrasted with the rest of the top 20. Conan Jennings makes a reappearance thanks to his win at Midlands over Parris. And Goodhart stays in the top 20, leapfrogging Thomas Haines of Lock Haven thanks to the former's performance at the Scuffle. Haines gets squeezed out of the top 20 due to Parris getting his redshirt torn up.
