NCAA Rankings 2018-19
197 Bo Nickal
A crazy Cliff Keen Las Vegas did nothing to simplify the ordering of this weight class. While the top four remained stable, Virginia's Jay Aiello, like his similarly unranked teammate Will Schany, wreaked havoc on the field. Aiello beat Tom Sleigh and Christian Brunner once and Nathan Traxler twice. He debuts at #11 as a result. Traxler slides to #12 and Brunner to #13.
Eric Schultz beat Aiello in the CKLV quarterfinals. He also beat Jackson Striggow and Greg Bulsak en route to the final where he was stopped by the dependable Kollin Moore. As such, Schultz moves up from #18 to #10.
Stephen Loiseau dropped matches to Tanner Orndorff and Traxler, but notched victories over Jackson Striggow of Michigan and Sawyer Root of The Citadel.
Striggow was ranked, but drops out after losses to Loiseau and Schultz, as well as a loss to Oklahoma's Jacob Woodley earlier this year.
Woodley was ranked and was at CKLV, however he lost to Ben Honis of Cornell and Sawyer Root.
The formerly ranked Corey Griego of Oregon State also wrestled at the CKLV, but he went 0-2, losing to Root and Wyatt Koelling of Missouri.
Koelling, Root and Honis are all on the bubble, but are kept outside the top 20 due to other losses. West Virginia's Noah Adams beat both Honis and Root. Northern Colorado's Jacob Seely beat Noah Adams. Koelling lost to Andre Lee. Lee lost to Cordell Eaton and Woodley. Eaton wins the toss-up with Seely as Eaton wrestled in the CKLV and Seely did not. Your mileage may vary. There is a long season ahead of us and there will be plenty more changes before it is done.
And we would be remiss if we did not mention Jacob Warner's victory over Willie Miklus, which did not happen at the CKLV but made a mess out of the rankings nonetheless.
