Fenton's Phil Lamka capped off a memorable season with his first Division 2 state championship, beating Goodrich's Max Macklem for the third time in the postseason in the title match. Macklem had beaten Lamka during the regular season.

Lamka, who finished 44-2, also beat Division 3 state champion Kyan Fessenden (Kingsley) and Division 4 157-pound state titlist Sebastian Martinez (Gabriel Richard) during the season. Lamka's only other loss was to unbeaten Division 2, 157-pound state champion Cory Thomas (Pontiac). Lamka's high school record is 126-12.
