Landon Sidun, Rocklin Zinkin, & Domenic Munaretto Set For Who's Number One

The top three wrestlers at 120 lbs will all travel to Coralville, Iowa for Who's Number One to battle for the nation's top spot. Landon Sidun, Rocklin Zinkin, and Domenic Munaretto all have strong cases to be in the event, and on October 11, the three of them will decide who takes the #1 ranking.

Landon Sidun suffered an injury February that kept him from competing in the high school post season or freestyle season this summer. Despite that, Sidun holds the #1 spot at 120 lbs because he had a victory over Fargo champ Rocklin Zinkin in the Doc Buchanan finals and secured titles at Beast of the East, Powerade, and Doc B in three consecutive weekends.

Zinkin is coming off a dominant Fargo title in which he teched Cam Sontz in finals. He also won a California state title this season and knocked off U20 World Team Trials finalist Ignacio Villasenor at the U17 US Open.

Munaretto is a two-time U17 World champion who has turned in high-podium performances at all the nation's top tournaments. He also owns a victory over Sidun from the 2023 Super 32 semifinals.

These resumes were difficult to parse, so all three 120-pounders will be competing for Who's Number One glory. #2 Zinkin and #3 Munaretto will wrestle first. The winner will face #1 Sidun later in the event.

Match History

The most recent matchup between these competitors came in January when Sidun and Zinkin battled in the Doc Buchanan finals. Zinkin struck first in that contest and secured a first period takedown. By the end of the period, Sidun had the lead with an escape and takedown of his own. That period proved to be the decisive one as neither wrestler would get another takedown in the bout.

Two years ago, Munaretto and Sidun had a highly competitive Super 32 semifinal. At the end of regulation, the score was 1-1 despite several offensive attacks. In overtime, Munaretto used his underhook to force a go-behind to lock up the sudden-victory match-winning takedown.

Munaretto and Zinkin haven't wrestled since 2021. Middle school results don't hold much relevance, but it is worth noting that Munaretto won that bout 12-6.
