Coby Merrill vs Michael Mocco Set For Who's Number One On October 11
Future Iowa Hawkeye Michael Mocco is set to wrestle Future Iowa State Cyclone Coby Merrill at Who's Number One on October 11 in Coralville, Iowa.

This year's heavyweight bout at Who's Number One could give Hawkeye and Cyclone fans a taste of what's to come in future Cy-Hawk duals. Iowa commit #3 Michael Mocco will take on Iowa State commit #2 Coby Merrill in a rematch of one of the most exciting Fargo semifinals from earlier this summer.
Michael Mocco will compete in Who's Number One a mere 1.9 miles away from Carver Hawkeye Arena, his future home venue. He enters the event after having earned top-three finishes last season at Super 32 and Fargo along with an Ironman title.
Future Cyclone Coby Merrill was a runner up in Fargo and third at the U20 World Team Trials. He also won basically every significant west coast scholastic tournament bringing home titles at the Reno TOC, Doc Buchanan, 5 Counties, and the California State Championships.
Matchup History
Mocco and Merrill met twice during the freestyle season. Their first meeting came in the third place bout at the U20 World Team Trials. In that contest, Merrill controlled the handfight and battled his way to a convincing 9-0 victory.
Their rematch in the Fargo semifinals was much closer. Mocco earned an early takedown and two stepouts. With 90 seconds remaining in the bout, Mocco held a 4-1 lead, but Merrill surged. A series of three late gut wrenches resulted in a 9-4 decision for Merrill. This Who's Number One matchup will be the third meeting between these two this year but their first folkstyle bout.
