Ariah Mill vs Turner Ross Set For Who's Number One At 106 lbs

Even before his first official high school match, Ariah Mills has earned the top spot in the United States and the entire world. He'll be tested at Who's Number One by Fargo champion Turner Ross in a rematch of the U17 US Open semis.

Turner Ross earned his spot in Who's Number One by ending a solid sophomore campaign with a Fargo title. This was on the heels of a season that included podium finishes at Super 32 and Ironman plus titles at Geary and the Oklahoma State Championships.

Ross earned his biggest accolade in freestyle, but folkstyle might fit him better. He's tough to take down, and he's even tougher on the mat with the ability to both ride and turn.

While Ariah Mills hasn't wrestled an official high school match, he's already been tested on some of wrestling's toughest stages. Before his 8th grade year, Mills earned a Fargo stop sign at 88 lbs then added a National Prep title to his resume in February in a loaded bracket at 106 lbs.

This summer, Mills traveled to Athens for the U17 World Championships where he secured a gold medal and greatly contributed to a team title for the United States.

Their Previous Meeting

These two crossed paths in April at the U17 US Open. In the first period of that semifinal, Mills transitioned from a single leg to a trapped arm gut that he used to turn and ultimately tech Ross. Mills' skills on his feet will continue to be a factor in this Who's Number One rematch, but his freestyle par terre skills will not. Who's Number One matches will be contested using NCAA folkstyle rules which will allow Ross' elite top work to be in play. If Mills can set the tone of this match with his dynamic neutral offense, he's likely to retain his number one ranking, but if Ross can use his length and tough top skills, he just may take over the top spot.
