2021-22 Illinois High School Rankings

195 pounds

Meet the Champions

1A:    Noah Wenzel - Dakota, Sophomore 41-4

2A:    Nate Wemstrom - Aurora Christian, Senior 37-5

3A: Jack Cummings - New Trier. Senior 36-3

2A shaped up pretty much as expected with Wemstrom, Hidden and Casillas leading the pack. All three have been on the radar all year and after competitive matches finish they finish in order with Wemstrom taking home the bracket board.

In 1A, Wenzel finished a great sophomore campaign with an overtime thriller again Unity's Nick Nosler to win his first state title.

3A was a bit of a different story.  Ranking math can be tricky and if there is one wrestler who probably wasn't a big fan of my math, my guess is that it would be would New Trier's Jack Cummings.  This past weekend, Cummings showed that he is one of the top 195 pounders in the state by defeating Lewis, Pacewic, Chang and undefeated previous #1 Marinopoulos on his way to a 3A title.  Cummings had one of the hardest possible roads and his run was nothing short of impressive.

Other storylines from 195 include Cummings becoming the first state titlist from New Trier in 46 years.
