With Gable Steveson out at the World Championships, Taha Akgul, Geno Petriashvili, and Amir Zare will be the main gold medal contenders. Since 2019, Zare and Petriashvili have split matches - with Petriashvili winning their most recent match from the Olympics. Though he finished behind Petriashvili, Akgul has the last head to head win from the 2021 European Championships (Akgul won 6-1).

Nick Gwiazdowski is a two time world bronze medalist but has head to head losses to Akgul, Petriashvili, Zare, Deng and Baran. Gwiazdowski should be considered an underdog to the top 3, but if he gets the right draw, Gwiazdowski has proven he's capable of bringing home a world medal.
