125: NaTo Detonated

There is a new #1 at 125lb for the first time in 2018. True frosh phenom Spencer Lee made a statement by knocking off #1 Nathan Tomasello in front of over 15,000 fans in Columbus, Ohio, this past Sunday. It was Tomasello's first regular-season loss in over three years. His last dual meet defeat also came at the hands of a Hawkeye, when Thomas Gilman beat the then-redshirt freshman in January 2015.

Lee's historic win threw the top half of the 125 rankings into turmoil. The undefeated Nick Suriano becomes the first #1-ranked Rutgers wrestler in history, with Lehigh's returning national champ Darian Cruz right behind him at #2. Lee jumps up to third with his signature victory. NaTo falls to fourth but remains every bit the title contender. 

Tomasello was only one of three top 10 wrestlers to suffer upsets this week. Minnesota's Ethan Lizak also lost to a true freshman, Michigan's #12 Drew Mattin, while Arizona State's Ryan Millhof continues to find his groove and took out Oregon State's Ronnie Bresser. Lizak moves down three spots and Mattin moves up two. Millhof climbs to #12 and Bresser, thanks to his win over Lee at Midlands, stays in place at #9.

Finally, South Dakota State's Connor Brown slides into the last position after taking out the former #18, Jay Schwarm, who falls just outside the top 20.
