Akgul Stands Alone

3x world/Olympic champ Taha Akgul is #1 after winning the European Championships in a rematch of the 2015 world finals over Jamaladdin Magomedov(AZE). Olympic bronze medalist Geno Petriashvili(GEO) is at #2 after a bronze medal finish at the European Championships where he beat Alan Khugaev(RUS) but was teched by Taha Akgul(TUR). 2016 Olympic runner up Khomeil Ghasemi(IRI) is at #3, and that’s due to Petriashvili being more active than him. 2015 world runner-up Jamaladdin Magomedov(AZE) is #4 after a runner up finish at the European Championships and a title at the Islamic Solidarity Games over Daulet Shabanbay(KAZ). 2013 world runner-up Alan Zasieiev(UKR) is #5 after a title at the Dan Kolov over Yermukambet Inkar(KAZ). 3x world champ Bilyal Makhov(RUS) is unranked due to inactivity, as he’s confirmed he will not be competing at all in 2017, either freestyle or greco.

Ibragim Saidov(BLR) is at #6 due to an olympic bronze medal over #9 Levan Berianidze(ARM). Alan Khugaev(RUS) is at #7 due to a title at the Yasar Dogu. Parviz Hadi(IRI) is #8 due to 2016 titles at the Asian Championships and Stepan Sargsyan. Levan Berianidze(ARM) is #9 off a 5th place finish at the Olympics to Ibragim Saidov(BLR) and a bronze medal finish at this year’s European Championships.
