Peyton Hall's Roll-Through Scramble | Technique Tuesday

Jun 30, 2026

In this week's Technique Tuesday, three-time All-American and the winningest wrestler in West Virginia history Peyton Hall breaks down one of his most effective roll-through scrambles — built on a single idea: a scramble isn't a chaotic 50/50, it's a position you can win from on purpose. It's a higher-level move that works in both folkstyle and freestyle.

It starts the same way every rep: knee deep, anchor with a tight waist, then swing your knee up and cover his head with your hips. From there Peyton goes elbow deep behind the bend of the leg, locks his hands, and squeezes into the roll — shifting his shoulders as he goes so he comes out off to the side and on top, never underneath. He keeps his knee under (let the leg straighten and the head pops right out), posts, and steps over to the church. And when his partner reacts by letting go of the leg, he takes weight to the head, captures and "shelves" the leg, and shelves the opposite leg to whichever way the opponent rolls — keeping him flat on his back the whole time.
