Another tumultuous week of NCAA D1 wrestling produced many upsets, particularly in the top 10! All the usual caveats apply, that which looks like an upset this week may not look like one by the end of the season, or even by next week!

While it may have felt like 10,000 days since last NCAA wrestling season, it’s actually only been about seven months. The eulogy you hear is not the vicarious thrills you are about to experience but for the changing of the seasons and the schism between summer and autumn that marks the start of a new wrestling season.

Below is a partial list of NCAA D1 middleweight wrestlers (149, 157, 165, 174) who are returning and will contest for a varsity spot after an interval of at least one year.

The top high school upperclassmen get to test themselves against the best first or second-year college guys who are often hungry to compete coming out of redshirt. It's the first step in making the Junior World Team as the winner of this event will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off series against the World Team Trials challenge tournament champion in June.

It was a busy week of NCAA wrestling, and the upsets poured in at a rapid pace. While many of these results may not look like upsets at the end of the season, we are for not without the benefit of hindsight and are listing everything that is an upset according to the national NCAA rankings.

The holiday tournament season has come and gone! We delayed our roundup for one day to accommodate the finals of the Southern Scuffle falling on a Monday. Hey, if the Rose Bowl can be postponed a day, why not this, the granddaddy of wrestling blogs?
