Things To Know: Joey McKenna vs. Real Woods At Final X

Final X is finally on the horizon, and each matchup from the 10 different weight classes in both the men’s and women’s freestyle disciplines has been decided for Saturday, June 14.

The top two representatives from each weight class at Final X will go on to represent Team USA at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

Most opponents facing each other have not met on an international stage before, making these matchups even more intriguing. Joey McKenna and Real Woods will be wrestling each other in the men’s 65 kg weight class in a matchup that features two elite wrestlers.

Here’s what to know before their epic meeting:

McKenna's Return To Final X

This year's Final X marks McKenna's second invitation, having qualified for Final X back in 2018 and finishing as the runner-up to Logan Stieber.

McKenna won his True Thirds match in 2023 to grab a spot on the 2023 Senior Men's Freestyle national team, but he is still searching for a place on the men's Senior World Championships team, a dream that could very well come true next week.

Experience vs New-Comer

McKenna stands as a two-time U.S. Open champion from 2018 and 2025 and has medaled in over 20 international tournaments. He recently took home a silver medal in the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships. Despite all of the success, a win at Final X would send McKenna to the Senior World Championships for the first time.

Woods has yet to accumulate as much international attention as McKenna, but has been turning heads in the 65 kg weight class regardless. The four-time All-American athlete enters the matchup as the 2025 Senior World Team Trials winner following an upset over Brock Hardy and now makes his debut at Final X.
