Real Woods Upsets Brock Hardy At 2025 Senior World Team Trials

Former Iowa Wrestling star Real Woods has now upset two former NCAA championship wrestlers to be crowned the 65 kg Senior World Team Trials winner.

Real Woods Upsets Brock Hardy At 2025 Senior World Team Trials

Things are beginning to heat up on the last day of the 2025 Senior World Team Trials, and the first upset of the final round is already in the books. 

The senior freestyle 65 kg weight class saw an intense clash between Real Woods of Cliff Keen WC/Titan Mercury Wrestling and Brock Hardy of Nebraska RTC/Titan Mercury Wrestling. 

Woods won by a 10-6 decision against Hardy, who entered the matchup as the 2023 NCAA runner-up, and will now have a chance to make the USA Wrestling team at the Final X tournament in June. He looks to go up against Joey McKenna of Cowboy RTC/Titan Mercury Wrestling. 

Prior to Woods advancing to the finals, he went head-to-head against the 2025 NCAA champion Jesse Mendez, a rising senior from Ohio State. 

Woods has now defeated two NCAA top performers to be crowned the 65 kg Senior Freestyle champion. 

Woods formerly wrestled for Stanford before transferring to Iowa, competing in the NCAA Championships five times and winning three conference titles. Upon graduation, Woods left for the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club in 2024 where he has since been able to stack onto his already impressive resume as a four-time All-American athlete.

Here are the men's freestyle finals, which will begin Saturday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The winners of these matches will head to Final X.

  • 70kg: Bryce Andonian (SERTC/TMWC) vs. PJ Duke (TMWC)
