2022-23 NCAA Division III Rankings

125 pounds

Big shift in the rankings after some major events to close out January. Results from Battle of the Burgs and the Pete Wilson Invitational hosted by Wheaton College brought some serious change to some weight classes.

Wartburg came victorious over previously unbeaten and 2023 NWCA Dual Champs Augsburg, 22-14. The Knights secured 4 major decision victories and are looking strong as we turn the calendar to February. Wartburg reclaims the #1 Dual Ranking and continues to hold down the #1 Tournament Poll ranking. Augsburg rebounded nicely with a solid win over #4 UW-La Crosse and holds the #2 spot in the Dual and Tournament poll. Johnson & Wales has 26 dual victories on the season and holds the #3 spot in both polls, these three teams continue to prove to be the main contenders in 2023.

Tyler Shilson defeated previous #1 David Hollingsworth for the first time in his career and followed that up with a win over previous #2 Nolan Hertel, flipping a result from NWCA National Duals. Shilson moves back up to #2 and Zeke Smith of Loras takes over the #1 spot at 157. This weight class continues to be tight as everyone in the top four has beaten each other.

Joziah Fry solidified his #1 ranking at 125 with a major decision over #2 Luke Hoerle. Fry and 174-pounder Mike Ross are the two #1-ranked wrestlers for the Wildcats.

Big few weeks in DIII as conference tournaments and nationally ranked duals are on the horizon. These results will give us a good indication of the contenders heading in Regional weekend at the end of month.
