As the defending world champion, Thomas Gilman is the favorite to repeat at the 2022 World Championships. The biggest challenger to Gilman will be Olympic silver medalist Ravi Kumar who spent the beginning of the year at 61kg but returned back to 57kg winning the Asian Championships. After Kumar, expect 2017 world champion #5 Yuki Takahashi to also be a major contender as he holds two past wins over Gilman. Of this field, Gilman has past wins over #3 Sanayev, #4 Alireza Sarlak, and #6 Bekhbayar Erdenebat.
