2023 International Wrestling Rankings - Men's Freestyle
61 Abasgadzhi Magomedov
Defending world champion Abasgadzhi Magomedov continues to prove to be the best in the world after defeating #11 Akhmed Idrisov in the finals of Russian Nationals. Magomedov has now won 9 consecutive major, senior-level tournaments and looks to be in a class of his own at 61kg.
At Final X, Seth Gross was one of the biggest surprises after defeating Daton Fix 2 of 3 matches to make the world team. Gross makes a major jump in the rankings because of those two wins but remains a few spots behind Fix due to their overall resumes. Fix's performance at last year's world championships is strong enough to hold him in the top 3 for now and Gross will certainly have his opportunity to rise in the rankings over the coming months.
2016 Olympic silver medalist, Rei Higuchi jumps to #2 in the rankings after winning Japan's Meiji cup and securing his spot on this year's world team. Along with winning a tough bracket in Japan, Higuchi won the 2022 Asian Championships in dominant fashion and looks to be the favorite to win a world title this year at 61kg.
