After failing to medal at the Olympics, Mohammad Mohammadian is back on a tear in recent months. He defeated Ali Shabani to win Iran’s national tournament and has a recent win over 2021 world bronze medalist Mojtaba Goleij (during an Iranian League match). Mohammadian sat out the 2021 World Championships but looks ready to challenge the best in the world again at 97kg. In order to do that, he’ll likely have to defeat Goleij and Shabani again to make Iran’s world team at 97kg. 

At 32 years old, Elizbar Odikadze continues to prove he’s still the best Georgia has to offer at 97kg. Odikadze took out the young Matcharashvili in the finals of Georgia’s national tournament. Odikadze has represented Georgia at worlds 5 times and the Olympics twice where he placed 5th five times and won world bronze in 2018.
