Four of the top 20 at 57kg were in action at the Poland Open but all competed at 61kg in preparation for Tokyo. Gulumjon Abdullaev came away with the gold and won his third straight international tournament in the process. In Poland, Abdullaev lost to Ravi Kumar in pool play but defeated Nurislam Sanayev in the semi-finals before getting revenge on Kumar in the finals. Also in Poland, Reza Atri suffered three losses - two at the hand of Sanayev and one to Ravi Kumar.
