Heavyweight may be as deep as it's ever been in Wisconsin. Gunner Hoffman is off and rolling again at 15-0, including an 8-5 win against Simley’s Soren Herzog, the #2 ranked 285-pounder in Minnesota. However, He does not have a match on record since the last rankings. Division 1 will be interesting as well with Empey, Mankowski, and Vils all being in the mix for a state title early on, but if all of them stay at heavyweight, only two will make it as they all hit in the same sectional tournament. Mankowski is the only returning champion at this weight as he took home the 220-pound title last season. Bunker suffered his first loss of the season to Vils, but stayed ahead of him in the rankings as a product of Vils’ three losses to Mankowski. Evan Gratz and Diego Morales are the Divison 3 frontrunners, with a cavalry of competition coming in behind them.
