2022-23 Ohio Division I High School Rankings

144 pounds

Besides some fun ranked vs. ranked matchups, only one ranked wrestler underperformed their rankings. Former #10 Castillo dropped two matches at districts to place fourth. He will still compete at the state tournament, but he will move to the bubble. Castillo was in the Kettering Fairmont district. Matthew Szczepaniak of Lakota West won the district, so he will be the next guy up in the bubble after an excellent performance.

In other districts, #2 Herman beat #4 Petite 18-7. Herman also beat ranked wrestler Humphrys who finished fourth. He won't fall in the rankings since he took fourth due to defaulting out of the third-place match. #1 Ty Wilson proved his ranking, beating star freshman Grayson Woodcock 12-4 in the quarterfinals. Woodcock qualified for his first state tournament, winning by tech fall in the third-place match. The most significant storyline is Ginter of Whitmer moving into 144 and taking out #5 O'Brien 9-2 in the Perrysburg district finals.
