Aeoden Sinclair's Seal Off & 3 Bottom Escapes | Technique Tuesday
Oct 6, 2026
In this week's Technique Tuesday, 2026 U20 World Champion Aeoden Sinclair breaks down getting out from bottom — built on one idea: you don't pick your escape, your opponent picks it for you.
Sinclair starts with the seal off, the first step into his quad pod series. Off the whistle he pushes his hip to the far side, rotates his elbow straight down and pulls it into his ribs to beat his opponent to the inside, then flares his outside foot and pivots up — never stepping, because picking a foot up with a man's weight on you leaves everything stuck in your hands. From there he gives three answers, one for each reaction. When his opponent drives forward, he puts his hand down in line with his toe, shoots his knee through that line and knee slides up to rear standing. When his opponent pulls him back, he counterbalances by leaning forward, pivots his foot out and drives the leg straight to come up sealed off on his feet. And when his opponent chops him to the side, he rides the wave — activating his hamstring and glute and letting that momentum turn him right up into the same position. If the guy on top is just sitting there hunting ride time with no pressure at all, Sinclair stands straight up.
