Reece Humphrey Front Headlock Mastery | Technique Tuesday

May 19, 2026

On this week's Technique Tuesday, three-time US World Team member Reece Humphrey breaks down the five keys to mastering the front headlock — the foundation of high-level scrambling, snap downs, and go-behinds.

Reece walks through his PMEAP framework: Position, Motion, Extension, Angles, and the Pivot Point. He details how to glue your chest to the top of the opponent's spine, drive forward with your elbows in, and create constant motion to break their position. From there he shows how to extend the opponent until they're bent and weak, create angles that turn the fight sideways and make it "unfair," and control the pivot point — top of the tricep, upper back, near the armpit — which is the most overlooked detail in shutting down front-headlock defense.

This is the framework that turns scrambles, stuffed shots, and snap-downs into points.

You'll learn:

  • The exact position to glue to — elbows in, chest up, pressure straight through the spine
  • How to create constant motion (forward, back, side to side) to break the opponent's stance
  • Why extending your opponent makes them weak, bent, and unable to defend
  • How to create angles that turn the fight sideways and exhaust the opponent
  • The pivot point at the tricep and armpit that controls the go-behind

Front headlock is one of the most underrated scoring positions in wrestling. This is how to actually dominate it.
