In November, the Ivy League canceled winter sports, including Wrestling, but that isn't stopping Cornell and company from finding opportunities for their athletes to compete. In fact, a number of Cornell wrestlers, past and present, will take the mat on January 8 on a card featuring Spartan Combat RTC athletes against opponents from a range of clubs.

The first Spartan Combat Wrestling event will feature a main card as well as an under card with matches to be announced soon. Here is a list of the first three main card matches slated to go down on January 8. 

Main Card

Kyle Dake vs David McFadden

Yianni Diakomihalis vs Anthony Ashnault

Gabe Dean vs Mike Macchiavello

David McFadden will have his hands full with two-time World champion Kyle Dake who's coming off a win over fellow two-time champ Frank Chamizo earlier this year. McFadden is coming off a title at U23 nationals and will look to establish himself as a legitimate contender against one of the world's best.

Yianni Diakomihalis and Anthony Ashnault will clash in a battle of top 10 ranked 65 kg wrestlers in the country. Ashnault recently finished 4th at the FloWrestling 8-Man Challenge at 150 lbs while Yianni had an undefeated weekend at the RTC Cup in November that included two wins over two-time World medalist James Green.

Gabe Dean has been wrestling consistently since coming out of retirement earlier this year. He's up to #6 in the Domestic Men's Freestyle rankings and will bump up to take on Mike Macchiavello, the #3 ranked man at 97 kg. These two have yet to square off in their careers and are sure to put on an impressive display of power.
