Just over a month after transferring from Ohio State, the #1 recruit in the class of 2019, Greg Kerkvliet, has announced he will be transferring to Penn State.

The recruiting process was anything but simple for the blue-chip recruit. Kerkvliet originally verbaled to Minnesota in the fall of 2016 but then switched his commitment to Oklahoma State in November of 2017. Then, in July of 2018, Kerkvliet once again reopened his recruiting process before finally signing a National Letter of Intent in November of 2018 with Ohio State.

Anthony Cassar is currently a senior for Penn State looking to win his second consecutive NCAA title this March. The Nittany Lions also have four-time California state champion Seth Nevills on the roster at heavyweight who was the 22nd-rated prospect on the 2018 Big Board

As a two-time age-level UWW medalist, Kerkvliet has the option of taking an Olympic redshirt this season while maintaining the option to defer another year of eligibility in the future. Kerkvliet recently wrapped up participation at the 2019 U23 World Championships in Budapest where he placed fifth at 125kg.

The current #1 wrestler in the country at 220 lbs, #11 on the Class of 2022 Big Board — although I expect that to improve when David Bray updates the ranking — and the #14 P4P high schooler, Nick Feldman, is a National Prep champion out of powerhouse PA high school Malvern Prep. The Friars finished in third at both Ironman and National Preps behind historic programs in Blair and Wyoming Seminary. Feldman will put his #1 ranking on the line against Oklahoma State commit Kyle Haas October 3rd in Austin, TX, at Who’s #1.
