Cadet world champion Greg Kerkvliet has entered the transfer portal and will transfer from Ohio State University before ever taking the mat in a Buckeye singlet.

FloWrestling confirmed Kerkvliet's status in the portal but are unaware of a future destination for the Minnesota native. As a two-time age-level UWW medalist, Kerkvliet has the option of taking an Olympic redshirt this season while maintaining the option to defer another year of eligibility in the future.

Kerkvliet recently wrapped up participation at the 2019 U23 World Championships in Budapest where he placed fifth at 125kg.

The Buckeyes still have three years of eligibility remaining from Chase Singletary, who finished in the round of 16 at heavyweight at the 2019 NCAA Championships.

Kerkvliet came to Columbus by way of Simley, Minnesota, where he was the #1 recruit on the Class of 2019 Big Board. The recruiting process was anything but simple for the blue-chip. Kerkvliet originally verbaled to Minnesota in the fall of 2016 but then switched his commitment to Oklahoma State in November of 2017. Then, in July of 2018, Kerkvliet once again reopened his recruiting process before finally signing a National Letter of Intent in November of 2018.

Any number of schools could use the services of one of the most promising heavyweight talents available, especially considering the flexible options with regards to eligibility. Wherever he competes, expect Kerkvliet to make an impact on the heavyweight landscape.

Back in September of this year, Kerkvliet told Steelwood Radio that he weighed about 235 pounds but wanted to get up to 250 pounds. Additionally, Kerkvliet stated his intentions were to wrestle now, which suggests that he did not intend to redshirt this season.

Below is Kerkvliet's gold-winning match against Russia at the 2019 cadet World Championships:
