Over 30 Upsets In The NCAA's Penultimate Week Of Duals

We've reached the second-to-last week of D1 duals, but that hasn't slowed down the upset train! There were over 30 in this past week of collegiate action.

The usual caveats apply, and many of these results may not look like upsets with the benefit of hindsight at the very end of the season. However, strictly according to the most recent national rankings, these all do qualify as upsets from last week.

125: Blake West, Northern Illinois over #7 Michael DeAugustino, Northwestern

It wasn't enough to get the win for the Huskies over their in-state rivals, but Northern Illinois' unranked Blake West did pick up perhaps the biggest upset of the weekend over Northwestern's 2022 4th-place finisher Michael DeAugustino, 7-2 in NIU's home gym.

133: #19 Kai Orine, NC State over #6 Micky Phillippi, Pittsburgh

The Wolfpack needed a win to keep their hopes for a share of the ACC dual meet title alive, and a 2-1 win from Orine over four-time NCAA qualifier Phillippi ensured they'd cruise to a victory at home in Raleigh.

165: #22 Wyatt Sheets, Oklahoma State over #14 Tanner Cook, South Dakota State

On paper it looked like Jackrabbits would have an excellent shot at defeating the bluest of college wrestling's bluebloods, but 2021 All-American Wyatt Sheets came through big with an 8-6 victory over pinning-machine Tanner Cook, and the Cowboys escaped Brookings with the team win.

174: #13 Cade DeVos, South Dakota State over #7 Dustin Plott, Oklahoma State

South Dakota State didn't let Oklahoma State leave town without a big upset of their own, however, as DeVos took out last year's 6th-place finisher, Dustin Plott, 9-5.

174: HM Tate Picklo, Oklahoma over #13 Cade DeVos, South Dakota State

SDSU suffered two losses from Oklahoma teams last weekend, as the Sooners also emerged victorious in Brookings. The Sooner's young Tate Picklo's 8-5 win over the aforementioned DeVos was a big reason why that transpired.
