USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum has published the Preseason Rankings for high school girls wrestlers for the 2022-23 season. This national ranking evaluates all girls enrolled in grades 8-12, and athletes from all 50 states are eligible for selection.

Last year’s high school graduates have been removed, and many new athletes have joined the rankings for the first time, including eligibility for incoming eighth graders.

The event which clearly had the most impact on the rankings was the record-setting 2022 USMC Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D. in July, which set entry records in both age divisions and featured spectacular competition in all weight divisions. The rankings also included the U17 and U20 World Championships, the U15 Pan American Trials, and the launch of the new season, FloWrestling’s Who’s Number One.

With the new season comes 10 new No. 1 wrestlers in the rankings. They include Gabriella Gomez of Illinois (100) , Ava Ward of Missouri (112), Elena Ivaldi of California (117), Everest Leydecker of Arizona (122), Janida Garcia of Colorado (132) , Sarah Henckel of Connecticut (138), Sydney Perry of Illinois (144), Ella Pagel of Minnesota (164), Savannah Isaac of Ohio (200) and Kiera Ganey of Illinois (225).

Four wrestlers who finished last season ranked No. 1 have returned and start the new season in the No. 1 spot again: Audrey Jimenez of Arizona (105), Shelby Moore of Washington (127), Destiny Rodriguez of Oregon (152) and Sabrina Nauss of Michigan (180).

The Pound-For-Pound (P-4-P) rankings were also updated, with a new P-4-P No. 1 determined. U20 World silver medalist Audrey Jimenez of Arizona (106) is the new No. 1 in the P-4-P. Rounding out the top five are No. 2 Shelby Moore of Washington (127), No. 3 Destiny Rodriguez of Oregon (152), No. 4 Sabrina Nauss of Michigan (180) and No. 5 Gabriella Gomez of Illinois (100).

The next National Girls High School Ranking will be in November, after a series of major pre-season events, including, the USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals, Super 32, a number of all-star cards, plus other large early-season competitions.

Coaches, parents and athletes are encouraged to provide information about specific athletes and their achievements throughout the year for the committee to consider. If they have information on specific girls who should be considered for ranking or updates on their achievements, please send it by email to girlsrankings@usawrestling.org. The quality of these rankings continue to improve as people choose to share updated information.
