2023 International Wrestling Rankings - Men's Freestyle

79 Jordan Burroughs

Russia’s Akhmed Shakhbanov jumps into the rankings after defeating Amanula Gadzhimagomedov at the North Caucus Federal Republic Championships. Also of note from Russia is world silver medalist Radik Valiev and world bronze medalist Gadzhi Nabiev’s move up to 86kg. They were formerly ranked #2 and #3 respectively at 79kg but will now be ranked at their new weight class.

At the European Championships, Georgios Kougioumtsidis made history by becoming the first wrestler from Greece to win a gold medal at Euros. He took out #15 Ashirov in the finals in an exciting, 7-6 match.

Also entering the rankings is former Russian, now competing for Slovakia, Ermak Kardanov. While he hasn’t been active over the past few years, Kardanov has past wins over former #3 Gadzhi Nabiev, #4 Malik Shavaev, and #10 Magomaev. However, because of a loss last year to #19 Alikhmaev, Kardanov doesn’t rise higher in the rankings.
