2023 International Wrestling Rankings - Men's Freestyle

79 Jordan Burroughs

There were only a few relevant results at 79kg but none that resulted in minor changes to the rankings. First, Magomed Magomaev holds his spot in the rankings after winning a U23 World title over Turkey’s Ramazan Sari. Also holding his spot is #16 Ashraf Ashirov. Most recently, Ashirov won Azerbaijan’s national tournament with a win over Gadjimurad Omarov in the finals.

In Khasavyurt Russia, #5Atsamaz Sanakoev came away with the gold by taking out #6 Akhmed Usmanov and #10 Arsalan Budazhapov. Usmanov came back to take bronze and hold his position right behind Sanakoev in the rankings.

The results at 79kg in the Iranian League make it challenging to sort out Iran’s Mohammad Nokhodi and Ali Savadkoui. Nokhodi, the silver medalist at the 2021 World Championships, lost to Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov in the semi-finals, 8-7. However, in the finals, Savadkoui defeated Kadimagomedov 6-5. Because Kadimagomedov is a 74kg wrestler, we didn’t take those results into consideration. Should Kadimagomedov move up to 79kg, the rankings will be sorted accordingly.

The only other noteworthy piece of information is Russia’s Gadzhi Nabiev is reportedly planning to move up to 86kg. He has yet to compete up at the Olympic weight so he’ll remain in the rankings at 79 until he makes the move.
