Aaron Brooks won the 2023 US Open with ranked wins over Zahid Valencia and Mark Hall. For that performance, Brooks comes into the rankings at #10 just ahead of Valencia but behind Ishiguro (who Brooks lost to at Junior Worlds in 2018).

At the European Championships, former Russian world team member Dauren Kurugliev made his debut for Greece and won a gold medal over Myles Amine. On top of the Amine win, Kurugliev also secured victories over Boris Makoev and Abubakr Abakarov.

At the Asian Championships, 2022 world bronze medalist Azamat Dauletbekov came away with the gold medal after defeating Alireza Karimi in the finals. However, prior to the finals loss, Karimi recorded a notable win over Japan's Hayato Ishiguro. Back in February, Ishiguro had an outstanding tournament at the Zagreb Open with wins over both Zahid Valencia and Myles Amine.
