2019-20 NCAA DI Rankings

174 Better Living Through Kemererstry

Few wrestlers have done more to make a mockery of these rankings recently than Brandon Martino. Losses to Joey Gunther and Kenny Moore kept him out of the rankings thus far, as did his teammate, Jackson Hemauer, who qualified for NCAA last season and had been ranked all season long. However, Martino has been getting the lion's share of the dual meet starts and has also been racking up quality wins over the likes of Philip Spadafora, Mason Eaglin, Sammy Colbray, and Hayden Hastings. Most recently, Martino lost a head-scratcher to Noth Dakota State's Luke Weber, who wrestled all but two of his matches this season at 157. We settled on making slotting the Bulldog at #18, ahead of Sammy Colbray, but your mileage may vary.

Speaking of Colbray, the Cyclone junior got back to his winning ways with a victory over Anthony Mantanona. Both Colbray and Mantanona are two more examples of why no one should these rankings too seriously. Mantanona has a couple ranked wins over Kimball Bastian and Andrew McNally so his recent loss to cost him too dearly. Meanwhile, Colbray, with his limited body of work at 174, is stuck at #19 behind Martino.

Hayden Hastings does not have the wins this season to afford him any slack after his loss to Martino, and he falls all the way to #20.

Finally, no one seems to want the final spot in the top 25 as Philip Spadafora lost to unranked David Riojas of Illinois and most of the contenders on the bubble also took losses. So we gave the spot to Ben Harvey, who did not lose, by dint of Army West Point not having any opponents on their schedule this week.
