High School Team Rankings 2018-2019

Sem Over Bergen

Oh so many moving parts.

Dual vs. Deep Tournament vs. Shallow Tournament and which key pieces are absent.

There were three big events to influence the top of the team rankings this week.

Wyoming Seminary outpointed Bergen 347.5 to 245 at X-Calibur. Both teams were missing some pieces and double entry was allowed. Needless to say, a triple-digit differential clearly moves Sem to the #2 spot. They will meet again at Beast and later in a dual, but with the guys who have emerged as true forces for the Blue Knights it looks like they'll be #2 to stay.

The second big event was LaSalle beating St. Edward in a dual 35-27. Both teams had a couple starters out. Nationally ranked 113lber Dustin Norris was upset, but LaSalle still prevailed. Again, those two will see each other again, namely at State Duals. Now LaSalle has proven it not only in tournaments (Ironman 3rd) but in duals as well. They move one spot ahead of Bergen.

The 'third' event was in Illinois where Marmion hosted a great set of duals. Detroit Catholic central only narrowly defeated Mt. Carmel (31-30). Montini was also there but they didn't wrestle DCC because they wrestle in January.

It's a tough call (and conjecture at this point) as I feel DCC would have performed well at Ironman. But their lightweights haven't quite come around to support what their known strength was (their middle weights).

Based on comparative scores, I'm moving DCC down. They'll have their crack to move up with future meetings vs. Montini and St. Ed's and at Brecksville tourney.

A couple notes from Cali - Clovis North soundly beat Selma in a dual. Selma was without Figueroa and the most anticipated bout - 120 w/ Tristan Lujan and Joey Cruz - did not happen as neither were in the lineup.

Also from Cali - last week I moved Clovis ahead of Buchanan based on the Shootout results but I failed to realize that Buchanan had only a partial group of starters there as the others were at another event. That's rectified here.

Erie Prep lost to Canfield in a dual and falls out.

The top two finishers at Minnesota Christmas tournament get in.
