The Stanford wrestling program, along with 10 other programs were set to be cut in 2021. What head coach Jason Borrelli and his team had to endure due to COVID restrictions was extremely challenging. But they persevered and overcame the odds to find Shane Griffith in the NCAA finals live on ESPN. A challenge on the mat at the end of regulation became an opportunity for Shane to put on his KEEP STANFORD WRESTLING sweatshirt and the national airtime may have been the spark the movement needed as all 11 sports were eventually restored at Stanford.

In 2020 Stanford announced that they were cutting wrestling along with 10 other sports. This, along with the restrictions presented by COVID, made for an extremely difficult and challenging year for the Stanford wrestling program.


"The Resurrection" details the year long struggle for the wrestlers and coaches and how Shane Griffith took advantage of an opportunity in the NCAA finals to expose this story to a bigger audience. Learn just exactly what this team went through and how Shane Griffith and Stanford wrestling helped pave the way for all 11 sports to become reinstated.
