One of the brightest young freshmen in the NCAA, Mitch Mesenbrink,  is competing at one of the newest young programs in the NCAA, Cal Baptist. Mesenbrink capped a break-out summer with a Junior World silver medal and enters the NCAA ranks with high expectations.

The Tech Side Of Things

Mesenbrink has a serious motor on him, a seven-minute match is his friend. We saw Mesenbrink use that motor to gas out the foreign competition in Bulgaria this summer, but one of the things that I have found interesting is that he has a slick side to his wrestling as well. If Mesenbrink can find a little bit go harmony between his hand-fighting and slick, quick, takedowns he’s going to make a lot of noise this year. Check out one way that he can Mesenbrink can use his gas tank along with his slickness to score at any level.

Competition Wish List

The west coast has solid depth in the pipeline at 157 lbs. In addition to Mesenbrink, Cal Poly and Stanford have strong freshmen as well. Luka Wick is up at 157 for the Mustangs this year and was undefeated last year in redhsirt at 149 lbs before getting injured. Hunter Garvin is at Stanford, and if you haven’t seen much smaller versions of Mesenbrink and Garvin scrap at Cadets in 2018, let me entice you to watch the video below with 5 short words: thirty-five points in four minutes.

Mesenbrink's potential battles against in-state opponents are exciting, but he could really be tested at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Six of the nation's top seven ranked 157-pounders will be in the mix along with a host of other NCAA qualifiers. Mesinbrink in this mix would be fantastic.
