Longest Dual Win Streaks Entering 2021-2022 Season

College wrestling season is back! As NCAA teams across the country are gearing up for their first dual competitions, take a look at the longest current dual meet winning streaks in Division 1 entering the 2021-2022 season.

#1 Iowa - 18 straight wins

Last Loss: February 24th, 2019 to Oklahoma State - 27-12

Average Margin of Victory During Win Streak: 25.11

Point Differential During Win Streak: 575-123

Biggest Threat To End Streak: January 28, 2022 vs #2 Penn State Then February 12, 2022 vs # Oklahoma State

The Iowa Hawkeyes have been the best team in the country for 2 straight years and it has shown both at the NCAA tournament and through their dual meet dominance. The defending national champs will be tested throughout the season with 15 total dual meets on their schedule and head-to-head matchups with #18 Iowa State, #11 Ohio State, #2 Penn State, and #4 Oklahoma State.

#14 Missouri - 12 straight wins

Last Loss: February 9th, 2020 to Arizona State - 21-13

Average Margin of Victory During Win Streak: 28.42

Point Differential During Win Streak: 405-62

Biggest Threat To End Streak: February 12, 2022 vs Arizona State

Missouri went undefeated in 10 duals last season and was largely untested-their closest dual was a 24-12 victory over UNI. This season, Missouri has a more challenging schedule and will face at least 4 schools currently ranked in the top 10 and 2 in the top 5 - #10 Cornell, #7 Virginia Tech, #4 Oklahoma State, and #3 Arizona State.

# 2 Penn State - 11 straight wins

Last Loss: January 31, 2020 to Iowa - 19-16

Average Margin of Victory During Win Streak: 21.45

Point Differential During Win Streak: 337-101

Biggest Threat To End Streak: January 28th, 2022 vs #1 Iowa

In 2019, Penn State had accumulated a 60 meet winning streak before Arizona State ended it with a 19-18 upset. Since that loss, Penn State has only dropped one other dual to Iowa and has now rattled off 11 in a row. Penn State currently has 17 duals on the schedule for the 2021-2022 season and will be challenged by the likes of #5 Michigan, #11 Ohio State, and #1 Iowa.

#4 Oklahoma State - 10 straight wins

Last Loss: February 23, 2020 to Iowa - 34-6

Average Margin of Victory During Win Streak: 21.70

Point Differential During Win Streak: 297-80

Biggest Threat To End Streak: February 12, 2022 vs #1 Iowa

Oklahoma State went undefeated last season and will once again be favored in every Big 12 dual this year. However, there is one big difference between this year’s schedule and last - Iowa. The last time the two wrestled in February of 2020, Iowa won in a blow-out. This season, Oklahoma State is much better suited to compete with #1 Iowa and will have their chance at The Bout At The Ballpark on February 12th.

#7 Virginia Tech - 9 straight wins

Last Loss: February 22, 2020 to Pittsburgh - 18-13

Average Margin of Victory During Win Streak: 18.33

Point Differential During Win Streak: 251-86

Biggest Threat To End Streak: #11 Ohio State

Last season, Virginia Tech went undefeated in dual meet competition and edged out both NC State and Virginia in two, tight duals. Both ACC rivals are once again on the Hokies schedule along with an early-season dual against #11 Ohio State and another against #14 Missouri. And though the schedule hasn’t been released, Virginia Tech is also in the Collegiate Duals with the potential to face #2 Penn State there.

#20 Princeton - 7 straight wins

Last Loss: January 11, 2020, to NC State, 29-12

Average Margin of Victory During Win Streak: 13.57

Point Differential During Win Streak: 176-81

Biggest Threat To End Streak: November 19, 2021 vs #1 Iowa

Due to the Ivy League’s decision to hold off wrestling for the entirety of the 2021 season, Princeton’s winning streak goes all the way back to 2 years ago. After their loss to NC State in 2020, Princeton’s winning streak from 2020 includes wins over Cornell, Pennsylvania, and Rutgers. With #1 Iowa being Princeton’s first dual of the season, it’s unlikely their winning streak continues. However, the Tigers will be a team to watch this season and aren’t shying away from competition. On top of the dual with #1 Iowa, Princeton is set to wrestle #6 NC State, #3 Arizona State, and #10 Cornell.

Princeton looks excited to be wrestling again:
