Gross and Colon met twice in 2017 and have scored a combined 44 points in those two matches. The first match came in the quarterfinals of the US Open. Colon won that meeting 16-12. They met again that summer at the World Team Trials in the consolations. Colon won another high-scoring affair 11-5.

In addition to being a match with incredible point potential, this match is a preview of the depth we could see at the 57kg US Olympic trials next year. Over the last several months, both Colon and Gross have seen success at the weight.

In January, Colon made the finals of the Matteo Pellicone knocking off World fifth-placer Stevan Micic along the way. Gross has been similarly impressive, winning the Bill Farrell in November to qualify for the US Olympic Trials. He took out NCAA champions Nick Suriano, Darian Cruz, and Nathan Tomasello en route to that title.

Earlier this month, Beat the Streets announced that it would conduct its annual fundraising event as a Virtual Telethon. The live matches will be held outdoors with no fans in an undisclosed location somewhere in the Tri-State area. The matches will be held with the safety of the participants as the first priority, following state and local health and government restrictions as well as the USA Wrestling Return to Events Guidelines.

As part of its partnership with Beat the Streets this year, FloWrestling will produce both portions of the Beat the Streets fundraiser. The Virtual Telethon will be free to view, and include live and recorded content as part of the fundraising celebration. The Virtual Telethon will have a variety of different features including prominent athletes, coaches, and celebrities. Fans will need a FloPro subscription to view the live matches.
