Another Buckeye is joining the coaching profession. Four-time All-American and 2015 NCAA champion Nathan Tomasello is joining the wrestling staff at Duke University as an assistant coach, becoming the ninth Ohio State alumnus on staff at a collegiate program this season.

The four-time Big Ten champion continued his freestyle training at the Ohio Regional Training Center after graduating from The Ohio State University and will now take the next step in his career on Glen Lanham’s staff in Durham.

Ohio State head coach Tom Ryan called Tomasello “one of the best in history” via an Instagram post congratulating the Ohio native. Praising the Buckeye alumni for being an honors student while earning undergraduate and graduate degrees as a student-athlete, Ryan pointed out that Tomasello won four Big Ten titles and earned All-American honors all four years in addition to winning a national championship.

“Nate will absolutely make a difference as a coach,” Ryan told FloWrestling. “He’s under a really great man in Glen Lanham.”

On the freestyle circuit, Tomasello missed most of the 2018 campaign battling injuries and recovering from surgery but came back to competition last year and promptly finished second at both the Bill Farrell Invitational and the 2019 Senior Nationals.

Tomasello will hit the ground running. Duke’s fall semester gets underway Aug. 17, and according to the program’s official Instagram feed, team members are back on campus today.

He joins great company in the coaching profession. Luke Pletcher, who followed in Tomasello’s footsteps at 133 pounds for the Buckeyes, joined the staff of Pitt as the volunteer assistant earlier this summer.
