Below is a list of every men's freestyle wrestler that is qualified for the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament on May 20 - 21 and how they qualified. The Cliff Keen Wrestling Club continues to be one of the premiere senior-level RTCs in the US. Just several hours after Alec Pantaleo brought home gold from the Zagreb Ranking Series tournament, the club announced the addition of NCAA champion, 4X All-American, and 2X Senior National Team member Nathan Tomasello.

The 2022 World Team Trials are set to go down in Coralville, Iowa May 21-22. This tournament will set the top two wrestlers at every weight who will wrestle-off for the world team spot in June at Final X. Seeds for the trials likely won't be released until a few days prior to the tournament, but because of its importance, we decided to predict what the top 7-8 seeds at each weight will look like. That’s part of what made this Olympic Trials and every World/Olympic Team Trials so memorable. The things we never saw coming.

Another Buckeye is joining the coaching profession. Four-time All-American and 2015 NCAA champion Nathan Tomasello is joining the wrestling staff at Duke University as an assistant coach, becoming the ninth Ohio State alumnus on staff at a collegiate program this season.

For a number of reasons, there has been a huge uptick in the past 10 years in the number of freshmen having success at the Division I level. From 2000-2009, there were four freshmen NCAA champions. From 2010-2019, there 13. That's over a 300% increase! We're now averaging more than one freshman champion per year. Anyway, I love ranking things, and I think many people enjoy critiquing my rankings, so I decided to rank every D1 NCAA title run made by a freshman, true or redshirted, from the past 11 years.

The 2010s were pretty good to the Ohio State wrestling program. Tom Ryan’s teams captured the 2015 NCAA championship and finished as national runner-up in 2017, 2018, and 2019, capping a five-year streak of top-three finishes at the tournament.

Ohio State’s wrestling program staked its claim as one of the premier destinations for young wrestlers with elite aspirations on the freestyle stage over the past decade. Since 2012, wrestlers affiliated with the Ohio Regional Training Center filled 16 world team spots, and nine current Buckeyes and alumni will start their quest for a world team berth at this weekend’s Senior Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas.
