Accolades

  • World bronze

  • Pan Am gold

Frank was only at the lightest men’s weight class for the first two years of his career. While there he competed at 2010 Pan Ams, Junior Worlds, and Senior Worlds as well as the 2011 World Cup and Senior World Championships.

In 2010 he won the Pan Am Championship, taking out 2010 US World Team member Obe Blanc in the finals 2-0, 1-2, 0-3. Surprisingly, Chamizo did better at the Senior World Championships than the Junior World Championships that year. At Juniors Frank went 1-1 whereas at Seniors he went 4-1 with a win over five-time World/Olympic medalist and 2013 World champion Hassan Rahimi of Iran.

In 2011 Chamizo once again defeated Rahimi at the 2011 World Cup. At the World Championships Chamizo went 2-2 and failed to medal.

65 kg

Accolades

  • World champion

  • Olympic bronze

  • European champion

After a two year hiatus while defecting from Cuba to Italy, Chamizo truly became an international treasure. After failing to win at the Spanish Grand Prix, Ziolowski, and Henri Deglane, Chamizo wrestled and beat 2013 & 2014 World bronze Ganzorigiin Mandakhnaran 10-5 at the 2014 Yasar Dogu to claim the title.

Despite already owning a Senior level World medal at this point in his career, Chamizo was still U23 eligible, so he threw his hat in the ring at U23 Euros and won while defeating 2017 Senior World gold and 2018 bronze Zurabi Iakobishvili 6-0.

At the Senior level European Games that same year, Chamizo took silver, losing to Olympic champion Toghrul Asgarov in finals, but beat 2018 World silver and 2018 U23 champ Avtandil Kentchadze for the first time.

Just one month later, at the 2015 Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial, Frank notched a win over one of the top five Russians of the past decade, Soslan Ramonov.

Chamizo rode that hot streak into the 2015 World Championships where he went on an absolute tear. The Italian won his first world title in a loaded weight class that included Ramonov, Asgarov, Ahmad Mohammadi, David Safaryan, Avtandil Kenchadze, Franklin Gomez, Ganzorigiin Mandakhnaran, and Brent Metcalf among others.

The 2016 Olympics was the last time Chamizo officially wrestled at 65 kg. Although he did not win, our international treasure still brought home a medal at a tough weight class. Chamizo had to beat two World champions, a Ukrainian, and Frank Molinaro just to get bronze. And the two who placed higher than him, Ramonov and Asgarov, Chamizo has both beaten in his career.

In May of 2017 Chamizo made one last return to “65 kg”. I say that with quotes because both he and Jordan Oliver were given a weight allowance.

70 kg

Accolades

  • World champion

  • European champion

After the Olympic Games Chamizo made the decision to move up to 70 kg where, despite only spending one year, he was extremely successful. After going 1-1 at the Dan Kolov, Chamizo would go undefeated through the World Championships with wins at Euros, Beat the Streets, Ali Aliev, and Ion Cornianu & Ladislau Simon.

One of Chamizo’s better career wins came over two-time World champion Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov, 11-5, at the Aliev. This reversed the result from earlier in the year at Dan Kolov.

In his only World Championships at 70 kg, Chamizo once again returned to the top of the World. This time he defeated a World medalist in every match and a multiple time World medalist in every match except one. Across these five matches Chamizo out scored his opponents 46-7 including going unscored upon in three.

74 kg

Accolades

  • World silver

  • European champion

After bumping up to 74 kg, Chamizo rattled off 10-straight wins, including a pin over 2014 World champion and 2017 World silver Khetag Tsabolov of Russia as well as victories over World silver medalists Avtandil Kentchadze and Franklin Gomez. However, the winning streak stopped when he hit World and Olympic bronze medalist Soner Demirtaş in the 2018 European semifinals.

Arguably the biggest win of Chamizo’s internationally treasured career came in July of 2018 at the Yasar Dogu when he defeated five-time World/Olympic champion Jordan Ernest Burroughs.

However, at the 2018 World Championships Chamizo would lose to both Burroughs and Sidakov for the second time in his career while going 3-2 en route to a fifth place finish.

Frank’s first tournament in 2019, the Dan Kolov, he once again ran into Burroughs and once again was defeated. However, after that the Cuban-Italian stacked up 15-straight wins including another win Tsablov.

Although, in the middle of this 15 match win streak, Chamizo did opt not to wrestle in the Yasar Dogu finals where he would have taken on Jordan Burroughs. This streak came to an end in the 2019 World finals where for the third time Chamizo was defeated by Sidakov.

In Chamizo’s final competition before the COVID 19 Pandemic struck the world he returned to his gold medal ways, taking out Gazimagomedov in the European Championship finals 5-3.

Bonus Behind The Dirts

Because not only has Chamizo beat the best in the world, he's done it with some absolutely filthy technique.
