Live updates of a dual meet between one of the biggest rivalries in college wrestling, the Oklahoma State Cowboys vs the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The dual will be broadcast live by our friends at the Big Ten Network, which can only mean one thing: my two favorite Lieutenant Governors will definitley be watching!

Last year Oklahoma State got the better of the Hawkeyes to the tune of 27-12 in a sold-out Gallagher-Iba Arena. How might this year's tilt unfold? Bratke and your humble blogger gave our predictions in a Whiteboard War, which you can watch in the video below.

This dual, along with Iowa State vs ND State, will close out the regular season. As soon as the final whistle blows for those two concurrent meets, we will officially be in the postseason.

Our statistics and research department, aka JD Rader, discovered that Oklahoma State has never been shut out in school history. The Big Ten Network just produced a graphic noting that the Cowboys haven't won in Carver-Hawkeye since January of 2012. The former has a better chance of happening than the latter, in my humble opinion.

Very cool of the Oklahoma State team all sporting Sorenson Strong bandanas during the prematch handshakes. You can read more about Sorensen and his fight with Leukemia on his GoFundMe page

125 Pounds: #4 Nick Piccininni, OSU vs #1 Spencer Lee, Iowa

1st period: We all know what happened last year, although it's worth pointing out that Spencer avenged that iconic loss in the NCAAs, on his way to a second NCAA title. Lee pounces on a single leg, transitions to a double and gets two within the first minute. Lee with an armbar tilt for four more. It's incredible how dominant he is on top. Pich forces a scramble as Lee went looking for anther turn. Lee had to drop to a leg and gets his for stalling. Pich close to getting an escape but Lee with a very impressive ride out to end the period.

2nd period: Pich chooses down to try to earn an extra point, despite the preponderance of evidence from last period pointing to that being an inadvisable choice. Lee gets two backpoints to confirm those priors, although Piccininni does eventually escape, but not after Lee amasses over four minutes of riding time, locking up the RT point before the start of the third.

3rd period: Lee gets to try out bottom for a change of pace. Pich had to drop to a leg in a scramble and now he gets his second stall call (also picked one up while on bottom). Lee escapes t omake it 10-1, but Piccininni answers with a takedown of his own to make it 10-3. Pich cuts Lee and it's 11-3. Pich looking for a takedown to avoid bonus but Lee keeps him at bay and wins 12-3. Major decision for Spencer Lee and the crowd is very appreciative of their 125-pound champion.

Iowa 4, OSU 0

133 Pounds: #18 Reece Witcraft, OSU vs #2 Austin DeSanto, Iowa

1st period: DeSanto with a knee brace on his right leg but he looks no worse for the wear. DeSanto taking ground from Witcraft and then hits a whipover from short offense and drags a toe to get a 2 + 4 point maneuver. Witcraft escapes and DeSanto immediately thinks upper body but settles for a go-behind. Another escape for Reece and it's 8-2. Another pancake from DeSanto and Witcraft is in trouble. It's going to be 14-2 at least if Witcraft can bridge out of danger. He can't! Excellent adjustment on top to secure the pinfall for Austin DeSanto! CHA is loving the first-period pin!

Iowa 10, OSU 0

A little extracurricular jawing from the coaches after that match. Not sure if any team points were taken away. Don't think so.

141 Pounds: #20 Dusty Hone, OSU vs #3 Max Murin, Iowa

1st period: Takedown in the first 20 seconds for Murin. Quick escape from Done and it's 2-1 in the first minute. Another level change for Murin, looking for a double, now just the single, catches Hone in a roll-through for a takedown. Murin also anticipates a switch from Hone to keep him on the mat. Now Hone gets the escape and it's 4-2. That's how the period ends.

2nd period: Hone starts underneath and picks up his third escape to cut the deficit to one. Murin emerges from a scramble with a go-behind for two more. 6-3 lead for Murin. Hone escapes but Murin picks up a short-time takedown to make it 8-4 at the end of the period. He also has riding time all but locked up.

3rd period: We'll start the final frame of regulation in neutral. Hone shoots but Murin defends. Murin looking for another go-behind, but he slaps in a cradle along the way and is going for the pin! Hone manages to bellow out, but that's 2 + 4 more for Murin and he leads 14-4 with 1:06 left in the third. We pause for blood time. Action resumes and Murin working hard to get the rideout. He'll get it, and with the RT point and Murin gets the 11 point major decision, 15-4!

Iowa 14, OSU 0

149 Pounds: #6 Boo Lewallen, OSU vs #2 Pat Lugo, Iowa

1st period: Lugo gets in on a leg first but Lewallen gets it back and they both return to collar ties. Lugo applying pressure, Lewallen appears to stumble, and Lugo has him on his back! Another fall! Lugo and the Hawkeyes pouring it on! Huge win for Lugo in his last dual match of his career!

Iowa 20, OSU 0

157 Pounds: #18 Wyatt Sheets, OSU vs #4 Kaleb Young, Iowa

1st period:  A shutout is looking very possible, although Sheets has a puncher's chance against Young, who often keeps matches close no matter who he faces. Young strikes first with a single leg he finishes for two. Sheets escapes to make it 2-1. A scramble in short time and Sheets as an opportunity to score. Sheets won't get it as time expires, but Coach Smith wants to challenges. A matside mic picks up Smith imploring the refs, saying "We need one!" I don't think Cowboy fans will disagree, but the refs might. The no-call is confirmed. We go to the second, Young leading 2-1.

2nd period: Sheets goes underneath to start the second. Reversal for Sheets and now the Cowboys have their first lead in any match of the day. Sheets putting on a good ride. Short time and Young still on bottom. He can't escape and Sheets gets the rideout and amassed 1:13 of riding time.

3rd period: Young elects to go neutral in the third. Young in on a shot, Sheets sprawls and counters, momentarily had a cradle locked up but it's two and more RT for Sheets. 5-2 now, but Young gets himself a reversal. 1:06 left after a stalemate. Young cuts him, Sheets has 1:17 of RT and a 6-4 lead. Young on a shot, shin whizzer for Sheets. A scramble late, time ticking away, and Young can't get the two, and in fact it's two more for Sheets! with the RT point it's a 9-4 regular decision and the Cowboys get a much needed victory to avoid the shut out.

Iowa 20, OSU 3

165 Pounds: #7 Travis Wittlake, OSU vs #2 Alex Marinelli, Iowa

1st period: The Bull will try to get Iowa back to their winning ways. He'll be the favorite but Wittlake has been wrestling very well lately. Both guys taking half shots, looking for openings in the early 'feeling out' phase of the match. The first period ends with no scores or stall warnings.

2nd period: Wittlake goes underneath first. Wittlake stands and is out almost immediately. Some ferocious hand fighting, both keeping each other honest, but that hasn't translated to many committed attacks. No scrambles either. And the period ends with Wittlake holding on to the slimmest of leads.

3rd period: Marinelli's turn on bottom. And he gets out immediately, knotting the score at 1-1. With one minute to go Marinelli tries for an elbow post sweep single but Wittlake just barely eludes his grasp. About 15 seconds later Marinelli hits a nearly identical shot but this time he keeps ahold of Wittlake leg and gets the go-ahead points. Wittlake gets an escape with 5 seconds to go but its academic. Marinelli with the 3-2 victory!

Iowa 23, OSU 3

174 Pounds: #12 Joseph Smith, OSU vs #1 Michael Kemerer, Iowa

1st period: Kemerer on a shot early, Smith fights hard but Kemerer works hard to get the finish. It's 2-0 and Kemerer starts putting on a tough ride. Smothering ride by Kemerer and Smith can't break free. Kemerer has 2:15 of riding time going into the second.

2nd period: Smith elects to go back down. Kemerer cuts him lose to make it 2-1. Hi-C from Kemerer off a restart and the Hawkeye finishes cleanly for a 4-1 lead. Kemerer goes back to riding and Smith is stuck to the mat. Ref whistles a stalemate when most of the arena was expecting a stall call. But then a but later the stall call does come. Kemerer rides out the rest of the period.

3rd period: Kemerer gets a turn on bottom and quickly escapes to make it 6-1. Riding time gets locked up as Kemerer goes in for another shot, which he finishes to make it 8-1. An escape for Smith but Kemerer gets one more takedown with less than a minute to go. A stall call in short time makes it 11-2. Over five minutes of RT as the match ends makes it a 12-2 major by Michael Kemerer. The Kemdawg is looking strong as he heads to the postseason.

Iowa 27, OSU 3

With over 13,00 fans in attendance tonight, Iowa has set the NCAA average home attendance record.

That beats their average from 2015, when they wrestled in front over 40,000 in Kinnick Stadium.

184 Pounds: #15 Anthony Montalvo, OSU vs Nelson Brands, Iowa

1st period: Curveball as Abe Assad does not wrestle tonight. Anthony "Taco" Montalvo with the clear size advantage. Brands doing his best to go toe-to-toe with the Cowboy. Nelson going for a front headlock in short time but Montalvo pops his head and collects two points as time runs out in the first.

2nd period: Montalvo on bottom. He escapes quickly to extend his lead to three. Nelson in on a solid shot but Montalvo too strong with the heavy sprawl. Montalvo goes head-in-the hole and gets a takedown. Nelson comes close to an escape but Montalvo powers him to the mat to keep it at 5-0 as the period ends.

3rd period: Nelson on bottom. Montalvo gets RT over a minute. Nelson granbys does a bit of breakdancing, spinning on his head and earns an escape. Montalvo with two more though as he looks for a major. Taco cuts Brands. Riding time now secure. Montalvo can get a takedown and rideout for the bonus. Brands avoids the final takedown and it will be a regular decision for Montalvo.

Iowa 27, OSU 6

197 Pounds: #16 Dakota Geer, OSU vs #4 Jacob Warner, Iowa

1st period: First takedown goes to Warner in the first 30 seconds. Warner with a couple mat returns keeps Geer on the mat. Now after 1:13 Geer earns the escape. Short time in the first. Warner with some arm drags but neither guy taking many committed shots. Period ends Warning leading 2-1.

2nd period: Geer starts on bottom. Geer stands and runs out of bounds but just barely gets the escape to tie up the score. Geer with a nice ankle pick attempt but Warner looking very agile, gets his foot back then spins around for a go behind. Fast feet from Warner. It's 4-2 and RT ticking up for Warner. Warner rides out the period.

3rd period: Warner gets a turn on bottom. Escape for Warner, now an arm drag to get behind and a mat return for two. It's 7-2 and Warner is now thinking bonus. Geer is out to make it 7-3, riding time locked up. Warner won't get the major, but he does get the dub, winning 8-3 over Geer.

Iowa 30, OSU 6

285 Pounds: Austin Harris, OSU vs #4 Tony Cassioppi, Iowa

1st period: Big Tone gets a two in the first 15 seconds. The Hawkeye woo's start cascading from the seats of Carver-Hawkeye. Cassioppi keeping Harris flat on the mat. The ref blows it dead for a stalemate. The next whistle very well may be a stall call. There's the stall call, as riding time clicks over two minutes. Harris does get an escape. Cassioppi with the snap-down go-behind just as time runs out in the first.

2nd period: Harris says neutral for the second and I don't blame him. He shoots on Cass but Big Tony turns it into his points. It's 6-1, riding time above 3 minutes. Cassioppi riding tough and Harris is dinged for stalling again. 7-1 Cassioppi and over 4 minutes of RT as the second period ends.

3rd period: Now it's Tony's turn on bottom. A reversal for Cassioppi makes it 9-1, riding time long since locked up. Another stall towards the end of the match and Cassioppi is going to close out this dual meet with a major. 11-1 is the final for Big Tone.

Iowa 34, OSU 6

Dominant dual meet for Iowa over their long-time rival Oklahoma State. The Hawkeyes are looking sharp as they head into the postseason. In less than two weeks Iowa will be in New Jersey for Big Tens and the Cowboys will head down the road to Tulsa for Big 12s.

Thanks for following along, apologies for the typos and see you in Piscataway!
