Iowa loves wrestling, but not just folkstyle. The midwest boys always bring the heat in the summertime, including a third place finish in Junior freestyle just a year ago.

Although the number of ranked athletes isn't overwhelming, there is a ton of point potential at the top and bottom of their lineups.

  • #4 at 113: Drake Ayala
  • #5 at 220: Cody Fisher (Iowa State)
  • #7 at 195: Gabe Christensen (Iowa)
  • #8 at 132: Cael Happel (Northern Iowa)
  • #9 at 132: Caleb Rathjen
  • #16 at 106: Trever Andersen
  • #20 at 195: Wyatt Voelker

Besides the guys still in high school, three ranked graduates will be coming: South Dakota State commit Spencer Trenary, who finished #7 at 285, then there is future UNI Panther Lance Runyon, competing at 170 but who was #9 at 152 to end his career. Lastly is another future Jackrabbit, #12 at 160 Cade Devos.

The young talent should buoy their 16U squad. All six Iowans on the 2022 Big Board will be there: Robert Avila (Lisbon), Hayden Taylor (Solon), Trever Anderson (Ankeny), Hunter Garvin (Iowa City West), Aiden Riggins (Waverly-Shell Rock), plus Wyatt Voelker of West Delaware.
