One of the Top Juniors comes off the board today as Canon McMillian's Gerrit Nijenhuis has made his decision.
Nijenhuis has been a huge factor at all the majors he's entered. Runner-Up at both Super 32 and FloNationals last year, he was also won NHSCA Sophomores to go along with a 4th at Fargo FS in '17.
In-state, Gerrit was 3rd in the state as both a freshman and sophomore with both losses to Carter Starocci.
Recently dropping to 170 for the postseason run, Nijenhuis is ranked 2nd in the state behind Lehigh commit and two-time state champ Edmond Ruth.
His final list included Wisconsin and Iowa State, but Nijenhuis ultimately decide he will head to Purdue University and wrestle for Tony Ersland.
"I feel like I connected with the coaches and that I will have the best chance to achieve all of my goals there," Nijenhuis said. "And I feel like something special is happening at Purdue with a great young team and I wanted to be a part of that."
We have Gerrit ranked as the #12 overall recruit on the JUNIOR BIG BOARD. He's ranked 5th in the country 170lbs. and as the #5 projected 184lbers in our PROSPECT RANKINGS.
It's a great start to the recruiting class for Purdue in 2020. Under Ersland, the Boilermakers' have had recruiting classes ranked #8, #13, and #6 the last three years.
