The highest ranked prep in Pennsylvania came off the board tonight.

Ranked 12th on the Junior Big Board, Sammy Hillegas has chosen Virginia Tech at the next level.

Hillegas is 2-for-2 in Hershey where he won state titles as a FR at 113 and Sophomore at 126. From North Hills High School outside of Pittsburgh, Hillegas has been a staple as a prospect on the Big Boards since Junior High. He projects as a 141 or 149lber for the Hokies.

He chose Virginia Tech after also taking visits to Arizona State and Lehigh and with in-home visits by Pitt and Cornell.

He won his first regular season major - Powerade in 2016. He was 3rd there last year as he lost to Beau Bartlett in both Super 32 and Powerade semifinals. He was 4th at Super 32 last year and made the semi's again this year before defaulting to 6th.

The commitment of Hillegas is the second Top 100 recruit for Tech in the Class of 2020 after a monster haul coming with seniors in the 2019 Class. Tech has six commits total and four of the Top 100: #9-Connor Brady (OH), #20-Bryce Andonian (OH), #51-Sam Latona (AL), and #85-Dan Mancini (PA).

Earlier this week, Tech received a verbal from Sam Fisher (Faquier, Va.) who had a breakout Super 32 in placing 4th.

Hillegas makes eight of the Top 15 in the Class of 2020 to have already verballed.
