Quarterfinals To Watch At FloNationals 2018

The quarterfinals are set for FloNationals 2018, and there are some excellent matchups across all the weights. Talk about a great way to get day two started in Indiana, PA.

We picked out 13 of our favorites to get you ready for Saturday morning. While we obviously want you to watch the whole round, we highly recommend getting your alerts ready in FloArena for these outstanding quarters.

Watch FloNationals Quarters at 10am Eastern

106: #16-Jacob Moran (IN) vs Joey Cruz (CA)

We tried to warn you about California brining the heat to FloNats. Cruz is an incoming freshman for the rapidly rising Clovis North program, and is a 7-time Tulsa Nationals champion. He's one of the most confident and competent wrestlers on his feet in the gym, and very well could go from 10 seed to finalist opposite Richard Figueroa, who he grew up training with. First though, he'll have to get through Indiana state champ and NHSCA champ Jacob Moran.

113: #12-Kai Orine (MO) vs Jesse Ybarra (AZ)

You know Roman Bravo-Young, but do you know his Sunnyside teammate Yesse Ybarra? This could be his breakout tournament. First though is Missouri state champ Kai Orine, fresh off an NHSCA title and one of the most sought after juniors in the nation.

120: #16-Dominick Serrano (CO) vs Devin Murphy (CA)

Back to Clovis North for a second, Devin Murphy was third this year at Cali states. Meanwhile, Serrano was a runner-up in Fargo. We knew 120 would be stacked, and it shows in basically every quarterfinal.

120: #8-Sammy Alvarez (NJ) vs Asa Garcia (IN)

Sammy the Bull made a name for himself this year with wins over the likes of Greg Diakomihalis and Robbie Howard, and then committing to NC State. Asa Garcia is a bit more unheralded, but won a state title in single class Indiana and is another great value for college coaches scouting the event.

120: Brock Whorton (WV) vs. Sean Pierson (PA)

The upset of the tournament so far comes from Brock Whorton, who beat #3 Eric Barnett in the Round of 16; Whorton is heading to Clarion in the fall. Pierson is from the same club as Sammy Sasso and Julian Chlebove, who were both champs last year. The Nazareth junior is hoping to continue the Dark Knights' streak of four straight years with a finalist and three straight with a champ.

132: Manzona Bryant (IN) vs Caleb Rea (WV)

Few pass the eye test quite like Manzona Bryant, though he had to survive a furious comeback from Joey Bianchi in the Round of 16. You might remember Rea from his upset of Gavin Teasdale earlier this year, and Rea also upset two seed Willie McDougald.

138: #9-Jason Kraisser (MD) vs Devin Schwartzkopf (MO)

The only quarterfinalist from Maryland, Kraisser is hoping to close out his junior season with a FloNats belt. This one could honestly be a semi or even a final, so the winner should be the favorite in their next match.

145: #17-Michael North (OH) vs Josh Otto (WI)

North came into his own this season after placing at Ironman and Ohio states. Otto is training out of the Askren Wrestling Academy, one of the best clubs in the country. AWA went 3-0 in the quarters last year before going 0-3 in the semis, but Otto and his teammates might push through tomorrow morning. Sooner or later, Askren kids are going to be winning national level tournaments.

152: Cole Rees (PA) vs. Ian Carlos (OR)

The case of the disappearing Carlos. Sometimes he goes by Ein, sometimes he goes by Ian. Either way, the Reno champ is going to have his hands full with one of the best freshmen in the Keystone State.

160: Sean Harman (OR) vs. Nick Giantonio (VA)

This match gets the Willie Saylor stamp of approval. Giantonio is an underrated senior and junior Sean Harman, the best prospect in Oregon, is just starting to emerge.

182: #3 Jared Krattiger (WI) vs Christian Knop (AL)

Another Askren kid, Krattiger is the highest ranked 182 in the field. But there's two southern states that like to show up and make brackets fall apart at FloNats: Kentucky and Alabama.

285: Bishop McCoy (PA) vs Kawaun DeBoe (PA)

Winner of this match is the heavyweight representative on the All Name Team.

285: Jack DelGarbino (OH) vs Jacob Cover (OH)

The all Buckeye state battle between the D1 4th placer in Cover and the undefeated D2 champ in DelGarbino, who also just won an NHSCA title.
