California Coming In Hot To FloNationals
California Coming In Hot To FloNationals
11 different California wrestlers have made FloNats history and now there are some more Golden State hammers looking to join them.
In the past, we’ve seen some of the biggest stars from California have incredible success at FloNationals.
Eleven different wrestlers from California have stood atop the FloNats podium, with Morgan McIntosh claiming back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011 at 189. Undefeated four-time Division II NCAA champion Joey Davis also claimed a pair of belts at 152 and 160 in 2011 and 2012.
Last year, Seth Nevills joined his brother, Nick, who just became a two-time NCAA All-American, as a FloNationals champion. But this year's FloNationals is all about the lightweights, as an impressive group of young studs from Golden State looks to add their names to the tournament's list of champs on April 6-8 at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus in Indiana, PA.

106: #2 Richard Figueroa, Selma
Fresh off his first state title run, Figueroa is eyeing a FloNats belt. He had an impressive year where he claimed titles at 5 Counties as well as Doc Buchanan. He also finished fourth at Ironman.
Check out his state final here:
106: Carlos Negrete Jr., Clovis North
Looking to get some revenge from the California state finals, Negrete will be entering at 106 as well. He and Figueroa battled in the state finals, where Figueroa came at him with an early-and-often-type approach to get the 6-1 win. He was also seventh at Ironman.
106: Joey Cruz, Clovis North
The eighth-grader is stepping up to the high school division. He’s got eight Flo Tulsa national titles and is a very promising young talent.
113: Isaac Salas, St. John Bosco
Up a weight from the last time we saw him at Ironman, where he finished fifth, Salas will be in the mix at FloNats.
120: #17 Cleveland Belton, St. John Bosco
He just claimed his second straight state title after having a season in which he was first at Doc B with a huge pin over Ethan Leake in 23 seconds.
Watch Belton claim his second state title:
120: Devon Murphy, Clovis North
Murphy placed third at the California State Championships, with his only loss of the tournament coming against eventual champion Nic Aguilar in the semifinals at 120.
You can see that the lightweight presence is strong coming from California—there is another force up top to watch out for too.
220: Victor Jaquez, Bellarmine Prep
Jaquez was the top seed in the California state tournament but suffered a tough loss in the round of 16 when he was pinned after being up 9-1. He came back to place third.
Watch Jaquez finish 3rd:
