Tervel Dlagnev Out For World Championships
For the first time since 2010, team USA will have a different representative at heavyweight for the World Championships. Multiple sources have confirmed Tervel Dlagnev will be replaced by Zach Rey due to injury.
Questions about the 2x World Bronze Medalist's health were raised after he wasn’t able to compete in the Iran dual at the World Cup after wrestling earlier that day against Mongolia. At the World Team Trials Finals against Zach Rey you could see Tervel was not quite clicking on all cylinders, winning two matches to one, but looking limited in the process. Then in July, Team USA sent Zach Rey to Pan Am Games instead of Dlagnev.
Rey recently won the Pan American Games in July and has gained tremendous international wrestling experience competing at the Granma Cup, Copa Brazil, Pan Am Championships, Medved Prizes and the World Cup.
Though Rey has proven to be a quality international heavyweight, Dlagnev's abililty to beat and compete with the World's best is next to irreplaceable. During Dlagnev's career he's beaten multiple World and Olympic champions including Aleksey Shemarov, Taha Akgul, Khadzhimurat Gatsalov and Artur Taymazov.
Tervel has already undergone a successful operation and is currently recovering with his sights set on the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. More information will be posted as soon as it is made available.
