Terval Dlagnev

1st Period

Texans are known for all things big, so it fits that heavyweight Tervel Dlagnev is one of the biggest and most accomplished heavyweights currently competing on the Senior Level. A two-time Texas state place winner for Arlington High School, Tervel was not the biggest name recruit when he chose to wrestle in college for a Division II power.

2nd Period

He quickly made a name for himself by placing sixth at the NCAA Tournament as a freshman and runner-up as a sophomore. His junior and senior years he won back to back national titles and was considered by many to be the top college heavyweight in any division. Dlagnev has excelled in freestyle since graduating from UNO. As a senior he won the freestyle national title at the 2008 University Nationals and followed up in the fall by winning gold at the University World Championships. In 2009 Tervel moved up to the Senior level and won a second national championship at the US Open. He defended the title by winning the World Team Trials and in international competition won the Pan Am title and finished third at the 2009 World Championships.

3rd Period

Dlagnev made his second National Team in a row by finishing runner-up at both the 2010 US Open and the World Team Trials. After a wave of wrestling success the past three years, Tervel took time out in the spring to get married to his long time girlfriend Kristen. Dlagnev’s parents, Ivaylo and Igrena, still live in Texas, and he has an older sister Krassimira.
