- 2026 Senior World Championship Brackets: Here's When They'll Be Released
With returning medalists and international contenders in the field, 92 kg has several compelling storylines heading into the competition.
Here are three reasons why 92 kg is a must-watch weight class at the 2026 Senior World Championships.
1. Trent Hidlay Is Back To Defend His World Title
Trent Hidlay captured the 92 kg world title at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, defeating Russia's Amanula Gadzhimagomedov 13-10 in the gold-medal match.
The final was a high-scoring battle, with Hidlay holding off Gadzhimagomedov to secure the championship. Hidlay also reached the final with a 15-4 technical fall over Azerbaijan's Osman Nurmagomedov in the semifinals.
Hidlay now returns to the world stage looking to become a back-to-back champion at 92 kg. With the reigning world champion back in the bracket, the weight class has a clear storyline from the opening round: Can anyone stop Hidlay from winning a second consecutive world title?

2. Gadzhimagomedov and Maisuradze Are Returning Medalists
Trent Hidlay will face a familiar challenger in Russia's Amanula Gadzhimagomedov, who won silver at the 2025 Senior World Championships at 92 kg. Gadzhimagomedov reached the final in Zagreb, Croatia, before falling to Hidlay 13-10. Another run to the Senior World final would give him a chance to challenge for gold again.
Georgia's Miriani Maisuradze brings an even longer history of international success. He won silver at the 2024 Senior World Championships in Tirana, Albania, and bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, both at 92 kg. Maisuradze also won gold at the 2016 U17 World Championships at 76 kg and bronze at the 2022 U23 World Championships at 92 kg.
Both wrestlers have reached the Senior World podium, making them important contenders to follow as they pursue another medal in Astana.
3. Amirhossein Firouzpour and Other International Medalists Add Depth to the Field
Iran's Amirhossein Firouzpour is another returning Senior World medalist at 92 kg. He earned bronze at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb and has built an extensive resume across age-group competitions. Firouzpour won U17 world gold in 2019 at 80 kg, U20 world titles in 2021 at 86 kg and 2022 at 92 kg, and U23 world titles in 2022 and 2024 at 92 kg. He also earned bronze at the 2021 U23 World Championships.
Greece's Dauren Kurugliev brings Olympic experience to the division. He won bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics at 86 kg and claimed the Individual World Cup title in 2020 at the same weight. Although he has not earned a Senior World or age-level world medal, his Olympic podium finish makes him another competitor to watch.
Kazakhstan's Azamat Dauletbekov gives the host nation an experienced international contender. He won back-to-back Senior World bronze medals at 86 kg in 2022 and 2023 and earned silver at both the 2014 U20 World Championships at 84 kg and the 2017 U23 World Championships at 86 kg.
With Hidlay defending his title, Gadzhimagomedov seeking another shot at gold, and established medalists such as Maisuradze, Firouzpour and Dauletbekov in the mix, 92 kg offers a range of potential challengers at the 2026 Senior World Championships.
